Food to eat while suffering from high cholesterol:
Eat foods low in saturated fat, such as:
Fruits
Vegetables
Whole grain foods
Fat free or 1% dairy products
Lean meats
Fish and shellfish
Skinless poultry
Look for soft margarines that are low in saturated fat and contain little or no trans fat.
Eat foods high in soluble fiber, such as:
Fruits like oranges and pears.
Vegetables like Brussels, sprouts and carrots.
Oats
Dried peas and beans
Eat garlic:
Garlic is one of the foods to eat while suffering high cholesterol, which helps in lowering cholesterol. Garlic is known to act as a blood thinner and may reduce other risk factors for heart disease
Eat soybeans:
Tofu, tempeh, miso, and some protein powders in health food stores are derived from soybeans. Tofu is also considered as a meat substitute that is low in saturated fat and cholesterol. Isoflavones from soybeans reduce both total and LDL cholesterol.
Eat nuts:
Since nut consumption lowers cholesterol level people who frequently eat nuts have a dramatically reduced risk of heart disease. Of nuts commonly consumed, almonds and walnuts may be the most effective at lowering cholesterol and macadamia nuts may be least beneficial. Hazelnuts and pistachio nuts may also help lower cholesterol.
Eat dry peas and beans:
Dry peas and beans are also great meat substitutes that are low in saturated fat and cholesterol. Dry peas and beans also have a lot of fiber, which can help to lower blood cholesterol.
Eat fruits and Vegetables:
Fruits and vegetables are very low in saturated fat and total fat, and have no cholesterol. A diet high in fruit and vegetables may also help keep cholesterol levels low. At least 3 to 5 servings of fruits and vegetables should be taken each day. So, fruits and vegetables are great substitutes for foods high in saturated fat and cholesterol.
