Maintaining Good LDL Levels

Many people do not understand the risks involved in having high cholesterol. They only realize the harmful effects of this when it is too late and they have a heart attack or stroke. You must be more aware of the importance of a healthy diet and find time to do the needed exercise daily in order to maintain a healthy cholesterol level and prevent the increase of LDL or better known as bad cholesterol.

LDL cholesterol, (Low-Density Lipoproteins cholesterol), is one of the two types of cholesterol in the body. LDL is the major cholesterol carrier in the blood, so you need to understand that too much of this cholesterol flowing in the blood will eventually build up in the walls of the arteries that feed the heart and brain. As your LDL cholesterol mixes with other substances in your body it will form a plaque that will eventually block those arteries. This is when you will find yourself at a risk for coronary artery disease, heart disease, and stroke.

It is necessary that you maintain a desirable LDL level because of the risk that a high level brings to your body. Your body should have a healthy level of LDL, which is 130mg/dL or less, flowing in your bloodstream. A number much higher than this, especially above 160mg/dL, will put you in a high-risk and unhealthy group. That is why the importance of eating a healthy and a low-cholesterol diet combined with daily exercise is needed.

Also in order to lower the level of LDL in the body, you should have more HDL, (High Density Lipoproteins cholesterol), which is known as the good cholesterol. The HDL stops the deadly build-up of LDL. In order to increase the levels of this good cholesterol, a healthy and low-fat diet as well as regular exercise should be observed.
