what should I do to get my cholesterol values to normal levels? Should I worry with the values given here?

By admin · Sunday, June 28th, 2009

I have a cholesterol of 235, triglycerides of 224, hdl chjolesterol 33, ldl cholesterol 162, vldl cholesterol 44.8, ldl/hdl 4.91, and cholesterol/hdl 7.12. What should I do to bring to normal levels?

you have a very high LDL level compared to your HDL… you could be at risk of hypertension or worse atherosclerosis which could cause heart attack or stroke… atherosclerosis happens when there's too much cholesterol in your system that it start to build up clogging your veins or some can detach and travel to your brain or heart causing sever damage…

You better start changing your diet… i suggest a low cholesterol, low salt, high fiber diet… minimize or better yet eliminate the intake of animal fat, exercise, eat healthy.. and consult your doctor ASAP…

Normal limits of cholesterol profile:-
Cholesterol- less than 200 mg/dL.
Triglycerides- Less than 150 mg/dL.
HDL- more than 60 mg/dL.
LDL- less than 100 mg/dL.
Take statin drugs in consultation with your doctor. Change your lifestyle.

Cholesterol doesn't cause heart disease. Ironically, worry about the values can cause heart disease. Stress causes heart disease due to the increase in cortisol.
My cholesterol is about 330. I would not mind if it were even higher. I eat roughly 1000 eggs a year. Statins cause nasty side effects. Do a little research.

Cholesterol is necessary for our bodies for it function properly. A lot of it is harmful to us in a way that it clogs the arteries with plaque and may cause buildup of pressure in the arteries, which may eventually result in a heart attack. Cholesterol has a soft, waxy texture that is found in the blood and in our cells.

Hi Sammydear,

You'll benefit the most by lowering triglycerides and raising HDL levels. Fortunately, the two go hand-in-hand. By this I mean the steps you take to lower triglycerides promote a higher HDL and vice versa. Here are two posts with information on each:

How to Lower Triglycerides – http://www.lisanelsonrd.com/blog/?p=429

How to Increase HDL – http://www.lisanelsonrd.com/blog/?p=436
