Is cholesterol bad for you, PERIOD, or is it something you NEED in moderation?

I've heard that the only thing that's bad for you, period, is processed sugar. But is cholesterol also something you should avoid, all else being equal?

And could someone explain what's so bad about it?

All things being equal, there's little need to consume foods that contribute to dietary cholesterol. Oil soluble vitamins and essential fatty acids can be got from vegetables and fish.
