How did I get high cholesterol?
I'm 5 10 and 127 pounds. Does that mean that I ate too much high cholesterol foods? Can I rule out saturated fat because i'm not overweight?
I'm age 16 by the way
my cholesterol is 5.48 which is above 4.80 which is the average for teens
I eat 2 eggs per day
Lots of meat
My parents are fine
Sounds like hereditary. This can be handed down generation to generation. My mother-in-law died at 39 from cholesterol so high that it formed around all her vital organs. It can also come up to the skin, looking like little white pimples which will grow larger, sometimes having to be surgically removed. My husband inherited this problem and before treatment had a cholesterol number of over 400, and diet did nothing for him. There are great Cholesterol meds on the market now which will keep it fluid in your blood stream thus keeping it from hardening in your arteries and around your vital organs…..This is very important, so keep on it. (after these latest meds for cholesterol, his count is under 200.)

Sometimes it's genetic…if high cholesterol runs in your family, you should be extra careful. Also, do you exercise? Exercise will lower your levels of bad cholesterol and raise the levels of good cholesterol in your body.

I'm unfamiliar with those numbers – total cholesterol runs from 100 to 400, with everything close to 200 considered dangerous to your life insurance company.
Some bodies manufacture more than can be flushed out or converted, and some diets and living habits make it worse.

You can get high cholesterol in many ways either eating to much fatty foods mainly greasy or it could be hereditary. It does not matter how much you weigh but what you consume I have know ppl that weigh next to nothing but ate greasy foods so much that their cholesterol shot up so my suggestion lay off most the greasy foods and ask your Dr. to prescribe something that will help lower it if he has not already

Cut out the eggs all together. If you crave eggs, use the egg beaters (substitute eggs) My husband has high cholesterol and it is VERY genetic! His mom's side of the family ALL have high cholesterol and it goes back to his great grandmother.

Cholesterol is formed by calcium being leached from white flour, it can be found in foods such as cakes, bread, rice, pasta, biscuits etc. A healthy balanced diet which should include fruit and vegetables will help, and you should try to drink water, at least 1-2 litres per day of mineral water. This helps flush out what the body does not want. Avoid fizzy drinks, especially those marked "diet" as these contain Aspartame which is highly toxic. A high level of toxins in the body can lead to all sorts of other health issues. There is a saying which goes, "You are what you eat" and I have seldom come across a more true statement.
I can give more advice if you wish.
Take care.

Yes, you should start watching what you eat. You shouldn't eat more than three eggs per week. Eat more fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and lean protein like chicken and fish. Avoid fried foods. It's better to start watching what you eat now while you're young, because if you keep up your current eating habits, you'll only run into problems when you're older.
And cholesterol is found in animal products, not grain products!

I'm a dietitian
It is a myth that eating foods high in cholesterol causes cholesterol problems. High cholesterol can be found in people who are prone to it… fat or skinny. It is caused by 1) metabolic propensity toward it, 2) genetic heredity, 3) certain health conditions such as type 2 diabetes, 4) liver problems.
I wouldn't worry too much about it. All the doctors want you to do is start taking Lipitor anyway.
Keep eating your eggs because they are nutritious!

you get high cholesterol by eating a lot of salt & bilding a lot of calories by not exercising……..But super saijin gojita wouldn't get high cholesterol

it can be a combination between the lifestyle that you lead (i.e. foods that you eat, amount of exercise that you get, do you smoke, drink, or anything like that) and your family history – not only your parents but also your grandparents and even aunts and uncles can affect this. Your best bet is to try and change your eating habits, get more exercise – if you use tobacco or drink or what not stop and see what happens, if it's still high your doctor can prescribe medication to lower it
